The Annunciation (Luke 1: 26-38) of the Archangel Gabriel to the sinless virgin Mary is similar and opposite to the conversation of the angel satan to the sinless virgin Eve. It was the annunciation of the incarnation of Jesus the Messiah and redeemer of all mankind. Looking at the two pictures above of the conversation of the angel satan with the sinless virgin Eve we can see similarities with the conversation of the Archangel Gabriel with the sinless virgin Mary. We believe two sinless virgins (Adam and Eve) caused the fall of mankind and two sinless virgins (Jesus and Mary) caused the redemption of mankind. (Only God could redeem mankind but He used Mary as a part of that plan). The first annunciation was the annunciation of sin and death by the evil angel satan to the sinless virgin Eve and Gabriel’s conversation with the sinless virgin Mary was the annunciation of grace and eternal life. Two sinless virgins replace the first two sinless virgins but they remain so.
Christians believe that Jesus is the New Adam because St Paul clearly shows and explains that but Catholics also believe that Mary is the (human) New Eve and that God wants us to go to Jesus through her so that just as satan used Eve to get his victory over Adam we use Mary to obtain the graces from Jesus we need to conquer satan. As through the intercession of a woman satan succeeded so through the intercession of a woman he is defeated.
Gabriel’s greeting to Mary was “Hail full of grace” (Luke 1: 28) so she could not have been full of grace if she had any sin in her. Mary later proclaims “My soul glorifies the Lord” (Luke 1:46) because in her humility she refers the credit for her sinless soul to God.
Mary (Luke 1: 29) “was deeply troubled at this greeting” of the Angel Gabriel “and wondered what it could mean” because she in her humility did not know that she had never sinned. Gabriel’s greeting was not just a simple “Hello Mary” but revealed to her that she was sinless. Mary’s “spirit rejoices in God (her) saviour” (Luke 1: 47) because she knew that all the graces she had received came solely in advance from the merits of her divine Son.
Mary is the New Eve and Jesus is the New Adam and God’s Fruit (Knowledge of God’s Goodness.). He was nailed to the Tree: Cross. Adam was tempted to take down God’s fruit from the tree and Jesus the New Adam was tempted to take down God’s Fruit (Himself) from the Tree? “Come down from the Cross and we will believe in you” (Matthew 27: 42)
Mary the New Eve was more tempted to take down God’s Fruit from the Tree than Eve was. God’s Fruit was Stolen from Mary and nailed to the Tree.
“Before they came to live together she was found to be with Child” (Matthew 1: 18)
So Jesus was conceived before Mary and Joseph lived together or outside of their marriage. So that means that Jesus was illegitimate as regards Mary’s marriage to Joseph unless Mary was already espoused to God when God conceived His Son in her. Jesus was born outside of Wedlock unless Mary had already taken a vow of Chastity (Virginity in this world) to God. So Mary had to be espoused to God by a vow of Virginity or Chastity and that is why she asked in (Luke 1: 34) “And Mary said to the angel: How shall this be done, because I know not man?.” God did not treat Mary as a surrogate Mother for His Son. In scripture we see how important the marriage bond was to God. So there is no way that God would conceive His Son outside of wedlock after He had commanded humans to make vows of Chastity in marriage before conceiving children. God is not a hypocrite and does not break His own rules. So Mary had to make a vow of Chastity to God for life before she conceived His Son. God was the Father of her Son so she had to be espoused to Him. Mary’s marriage to Joseph was secondary to that and we can only presume that Joseph was the ideal human spouse for Mary and must have taken a vow of virginity or chastity to God as well or at least have accepted Mary’s vow of Virginity.
On two occasions Jesus addressed Mary His Mother by the term: Woman. This was to show us that Mary is the New Eve, the New Woman. The first time was when she asked Him to perform His first miracle at the wedding feast of Cana when she said “Son they have no wine” (John 2: 3) and He replied “Woman what is that to Me and to you, My hour has not yet come” (John 2: 4). Jesus raised the meaning of her words to the fact that He is the New Adam and the Groom of the Church and that she is the human New Eve. The second time was at the foot of the Tree of the Cross when He said “Woman behold your son,, ,,son behold your Mother” (John 19: 26-27) . Adam gave the New creature God had created from his rib the name “Woman” (Genesis 2: 23) but after the fall he renamed her “Eve; because she was mother of all the living” (Genesis 3: 20). Jesus called His Mother Mary by the name “Woman” but just before He died on the Tree Jesus gave Mary the title “Mother” and told St John that she was his Mother and so Mary was appointed “Mother of all the living” beneath the Tree.
Mary as the New Eve has offered the sacrifice and theft of God’s Divine Fruit and her’s and so she receives the sinful fruit of Eve because her mission is to be the “Mother of all the living” and that is because she intercedes for the graces we need. Mary is our Mother because she is the Mother of Jesus and therefore she is the Mother of the whole Church - Jesus is the Head of the Church. Jesus called Magdalen “Woman” (John 20: 15) for similar reasons.
Jesus and the two angels in the garden of the resurrection ask Mary Magdalen “Woman why are you weeping?” (John 20: 13,15) This was because Magdalen symbolised Eve the sinner weeping at the gates of Paradise but by His resurrection Jesus was showing that He the New or Last Adam has opened the gates of Paradise by His Passion, death and resurrection. In other words Redemption has been accomplished.
Mary revealed the fact that she is sinless when she appeared to St Catherine Labore in 1831 and asked her to get the Medal (Known now as the Miraculous Medal) with the prayer “O Mary conceived without sin pray for us who have recourse to you” made. Also she appeared to St Bernadette in Lourdes and confirmed to her that she is the “Immaculate Conception”.
Satan revealed secret lies to Eve about God but Gabriel revealed a new secret Truth about God to Mary and that was that God is the Trinity: “The angel answered and said to her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.Ù” (Luke 1: 35)
Angel Gabriel replaces fallen angel satan. Eve had a world changing conversation with an angel, so did Mary.
Proper use of free will replaces improper use of free will. Their Obedience replaces the disobedience of Adam and Eve.
The Tree of the Cross replaces the Tree of Fruit. God’s only Divine Fruit (Son of God) on the cross replaces God’s temporal fruit on the tree.
Garden of Gethsemane replaces Garden of Paradise.
6th Day (Holy Thursday evening to Good Friday evening) replaces 6th day of the creation of our first parents. (Remembering that Jewish days start at 6pm and end at 6pm because the Bible says “Evening came, morning came the first day” (Genesis 1: 5))
“Take ye, and eat. This is my body.” (Matthew 26: 26) at the last supper replaces the command “Do not take and eat” (“From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.” (Genesis 2: 16-17))
Grace conquers sin.
Angels in the tomb of Jesus replace Cherubim Angels with the “flashing fiery sword” (Genesis 3: 24).
“Blessed are you among women and blessed is the Fruit of your womb” (Luke 1: 42) said to Mary replaces the curse on Eve because of her original sin. The fruit of Eve’s womb was cursed, the Fruit of Mary’s womb was Blessed.
2 Sinless Virgins replace 2 Sinless Virgins, Eve was a sinless virgin, so was Mary. Adam and Eve did not remain sinless virgins, Jesus and Mary did remain sinless virgins.
Eve was tempted to take down God’s fruit from the tree, so was Mary,
Eve stole God’s fruit from the tree, God’s Fruit was stolen from Mary and nailed to the Tree,
Eve was called “Woman” by Adam, Mary was called “Woman” by the New Adam,
Eve suffered a lot and wept, so did Mary.
Eve came from the body of Adam, Jesus came from the womb of Mary.
Eve was the spouse of Adam, Mary is the most perfect human spiritual spouse of Jesus.
Satan conquered through the intercession of Eve to Adam, satan is defeated through the intercession of Mary to Jesus.
Adam was the head of the human race, Jesus became the spiritual Head of the Human race, Eve was the physical Mother of the Human race, Mary became the Spiritual Mother (Through her intercession she obtains graces for us) of the human race.
Adam and Eve were expelled from Paradise by the flashing fiery sword of Divine Justice, Jesus opened Paradise by suffering the sword of Divine Justice and Mary suffered that sword also. “Thine soul also a sword shall pierce”. (Luke 2: 35)
Jesus is God, Mary is only human but nevertheless she is the New Eve.
Jesus and Mary are similar and opposite to Adam and Eve. (Frank Duff)
After the fall Adam and Eve were united in physical love and conceived children, after the redemption Jesus and Mary and the Church were united in Spiritual Love on Pentecost Sunday when the Holy Spirit descended on them. Mary had already 33 years earlier conceived Jesus the Head of the Church by the power of the Holy Spirit and the Church conceives children in the Baptisimal font by the power of the Holy Spirit.
(Acts 2:37-38)
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The Mass is also the wedding feast of the Lamb wherein Jesus and the Church are united physically.
Several different people have claimed that the whole world will get a warning from God some day. I just want to say that IF that happens then that is in accordance with Mary’s role as the New Eve. Mary said in Fatima “In the end my heart will triumph”. Why or how? Well in the beginning Eve’s heart was defeated and she acted as intercessor to Adam to get him to sin too. Then because Mary is the New Eve then it would be appropriate that through her intercession to Jesus that Jesus would grant the world a grace of self knowledge. Basically Eve said “Take this fruit of the knowledge of good and evil” but Mary will ask Jesus to grant us the grace of the knowledge of our own good and evil: a warning. So I am just saying if that warning does happen that it would be a gift obtained for us by our Heavenly Mother.
Hail Mary, Full of grace,
The Lord is with you,
Blessed are you among women,
And blessed is the fruit of your womb; Jesus,
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
