The Big Secret

Mercy for Injustice

Is there a Big Secret about God? Well, there is something very important about God but it is like a Big Secret!. If a lot of people were asked to describe God they would probably describe Him as a God of fire and brimstone, a punishing God who perhaps loves to make people suffer, a God who would rather condemn us than pardon us, a God who will love to Judge us with His terrifying Justice.

Somebody once said that Justice is when we give someone something good or bad that they deserve , fair and square, injustice is when we either don't give someone what they deserve or give them something they don't deserve in a wrong way, but Mercy is when we give someone something good that they don't deserve or if we don't give them something bad that they deserve. Nearly 2000 years ago two people got what they did not deserve from Pontius Pilate. To Jesus the only Son of the Heavenly Father he gave the greatest injustice of all time by condemning Him to torture and death, and to Barabbas who was a notorious criminal (His name ironically means “Son of the Father”), Pilate gave Barabbas a great act of Mercy, he set him free. Jesus by allowing Himself to be condemned gave every human being that would ever exist the chance of Eternal Life! the chance of becoming an Eternal child of God! Jesus by becoming God's victim of Divine Justice became our source of Divine Mercy. He is the Divine Mercy of God and that is why He became the victim of Divine Justice.

There is nothing we can do in our little lives to deserve living forever and ever. Eternal Life is an incredible gift of God's Mercy. God invented and created each and every one of us because He wanted to share His Eternal Life and bliss with us in Heaven for all Eternity. God's Nature is Mercy but we prevent Him from being merciful to us. One reason for this is that we are not merciful ourselves: often we do not forgive others. Another reason is that we do not believe in God's goodness and Mercy and so we often prevent Him being Merciful to us. (It's hard to accept presents from someone we don't trust.) So many of us do not trust Jesus and so we barely like Him not to mention Love Him. But the Heart of Jesus is burning with love for us every second of our lives no matter what evil we have done or what we are doing or even what we will do. Jesus loves us and always wants to forgive us but because He has so much respect for us He gave us the Gift of Freewill. We can't receive God's forgiveness and Mercy if we don't realise we need them. In the Sacrament of Confession Jesus forgives us our sins but He also starts healing our soul of the damage sin has done to us and so He makes us stronger so that we become less attached to sin.

Sin weakens our willpower but Jesus in Confession strengthens it. Jesus wants to free us from the devil's power. God gave us the Sacraments because He Loves us and He always wants to help us. Through the Sacraments He pours grace into our souls. When we sin we are actually rejecting God and if we die in serious sin God has created a place for us and it is a place where He is not present and that is the real reason we call it hell. The eternal loss of God who is so humble, kind, compassionate, understanding, respectful, grateful, generous, witty, humorous, wise and merciful is the greatest suffering ever. The Devil (or Lucifer which means “Angel of Light” but it is false light as in the New Age spirit guides) hates devotion to Divine Mercy because he loses souls through Divine Mercy. He uses Divine Justice to try and claim souls that are brought before the Throne of God for judgement. At that time for us he might wrap his arms around us and shout to God “By Justice this flea comes with me!” and he will be telling the truth!, because any one who has sinned cannot deserve Heaven and as we said earlier on, we sinners deserve non existence, but if we had already repented of our sins before our death and begged for Mercy Jesus might say “Begone Satan you swine! because this little Child is Mine!!!”. We can only get into Heaven through the back door of “Divine Mercy” Jesus by His Passion has entered Heaven through the Front Door of Divine Justice with it's “flashing fiery sword” (See Genesis) and He opened the Door of Divine Mercy for us. (St Faustina's Divine Mercy image of Jesus is door shaped). Salvation for all people is only through Divine Mercy. So on our Judgement day we need to have repented for all our sins and asked God for Mercy or we need someone praying to God on our behalf for Divine Mercy for us so that we can repent of our sins. We should also have lived Merciful lives ourselves so that Jesus can give us Mercy. We should also believe in God's Mercy and Love for us so that we know He wants to save us. The Devil claims souls by Divine Justice and loses them by Divine Mercy. He hates any devotion to Divine Mercy. St Faustina reported in her diary that one day she said to God “Your Christ Oh Lord is Your Mercy”. Jesus is the Divine Mercy of God. So the Big Secret about God is that God's Nature is Mercy, His Heart is full of mercy. If “mercy” was described as a fire then God's Heart would be described as an infinite furnace of love for us. But the choice is ours, God loves us and when we start to know Him better we will realise that more and more. The Heart of Jesus is Burning with Love for us and if we do not believe that or when we Sin we pierce His Heart with a crown of Thorns. Mary's Heart burns with Love for us as well because her Son died for us and also because she is so full of the Holy Spirit she Shares His Love for His creatures.

Three examples

One

On the afternoon of the feast of St Faustina ( October 5th ) a few years ago i was touring the ring of Kerry in Ireland with a friend and to be honest i really wanted to be in a church instead to pray the three o'clock prayer that Jesus gave Faustina but i could not refuse my friend a sight seeing tour of the Kerry coast. My friend asked me to pull in at a wide part of the road where there was a little parking spot so that we could see the Ocean on the left hand side. On our right there was a two feet high Crucifix and on our left the vast ocean. I looked at my watch and it was exactly Three o' clock which was very appropriate because the prayer mentions an Ocean of Mercy. I think Jesus was trying to show me just how vast His ocean of Mercy really is. (We are not forgetting His perfect justice because it can be easy and foolish to forget that.)

Two

A resident from a homeless hostel had a massive Heart attack at 3 o'clock and was rushed to hospital, later that night two staff members i know said the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for him. The following morning they were told he died but they realised it was at the exact time they finished saying the Chaplet of Mercy for him and also the clock stopped at the very same time! They felt Jesus wanted them to continue saying the Chaplet for the dying as often as possible.

Three

On Friday the eight of January 1937 St Faustina with great trust in the Love and Mercy of Jesus asked Him to save all the people who would die that day from going to Hell (See paragraph no. 873 of her Diary). He replied to her that she had come to know well the Depths of His Mercy and that He was complying with her wish!. He asked her to unite herself continually with His agonising Heart and to make reparation to His Justice. We can make reparation to His justice by saying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and we can save more souls by believing more and more in the Goodness of God and of course remembering His perfectly fair justice. (Some people make the foolish mistake of saying that God is all Mercy and no Justice. He respects our freewill). We should fear His Justice but Trust His Mercy. We actually deserve His Justice and weshould be happy to receive it.

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy

The opening prayers of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

The Sign of the Cross

We begin and end these prayers by making the sign of the Cross with our right (for most people! or left hand for the rest. )hand on ourselves from our forehead to our belly button and from left shoulder to right shoulder while saying “In the name of the Father ( touch forehead ) and of the Son ( touch belly button ) and of the Holy ( touch left shoulder ) Spirit ( touch right shoulder ) Amen.” We can then say the above 3 O' clock prayer ( this prayer is optional for the Chaplet ) followed by one “Our Father” one “Hail Mary” and the “Apostles Creed”

Three o'Clock Prayer

(Jesus asked St Faustina to say this prayer at 3 O'clock.)

“You expired Jesus,
but the source of life gushed forth for souls
and an Ocean of Mercy
opened up for the whole world.
O Fount of Life,
unfathomable Divine Mercy,
envelop the whole world
and empty Yourself out upon us.”
“O Blood and Water which gushed forth
from the Heart of Jesus
as a fount of Mercy for us,
I trust in You”

Please remember though that at every Hour it is Three o'Clock somewhere in the world.

The Our Father

Our Father,
Who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven,
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.Amen

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with you,
Blessed are you among women,
and Blessed is the Fruit of your womb, Jesus,
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners now
and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of Heaven and Earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
He descended into hell;
on the third day He rose again, from the dead;
He ascended into Heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
the communion of Saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the Resurrection of the body
and Life Everlasting. Amen.

On the large beads we say this prayer:

“Eternal Father we offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of your dearly Beloved Son our Lord Jesus Christ in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.”

then on each of the ten small beads we say:

“For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.”

We repeat that process of large bead and ten small beads for the five decades around the rosary ring. Conclude the five decades (the full rosary ring) with this prayer said three times

Holy God,
Holy Mighty One,
Holy Immortal One,
Have Mercy on us,
and on the Whole World. Amen

We can finish with the “Sign of Cross” again.

The world needs Mercy and if Mercy is asked for then Mercy will be given but if Mercy is not asked for then Justice will be given.
